Mining Overview

Mining in SkyBlock is a deep progression system built around the Heart of the Mountain (HotM) skill tree. Unlike vanilla Minecraft, you earn Mining XP, Powder, and special resources from ores that scale dramatically with your gear and HotM investment.

Unlock Dwarven Mines first

To unlock HotM, talk to Rhys in the Dwarven Mines and give him 15× any enchanted ore (e.g. Enchanted Cobblestone). The Dwarven Mines are accessed via the portal in the Hub near the Gold Mine.

Heart of the Mountain (HotM)

HotM is your mining skill tree — it has 10 tiers and dozens of upgradable nodes. Leveling it up requires Mithril Powder (from Dwarven Mines) and Gemstone Powder (from Crystal Hollows).

HotM Tier Milestones

HotM LevelKey Unlock
1Unlock HotM tree
2Mining Speed II node
3Quick Forge (faster crafting)
4Crystal Hollows access
5Efficient Miner node
6Mining Speed Boost ability
7Vein Seeker node
8Glacite Tunnels access
9Mineshaft access
10Full tree, all nodes available

Token of the Mountain

Each HotM level gives a Token of the Mountain which can be spent to unlock new HotM nodes (perks/abilities). Spend them wisely — focus on Mining Speed and Mining Fortune nodes first.

Both powder types share the same upgrade pool — you can use either for most HotM nodes.

Mining Gear Progression

Early Mining

  • Armor: Glacite Armor set or basic miner armor
  • Tool: Iron/Gold/Diamond Pickaxe → Stonk (mid-game upgrade)
  • Pet: Lvl 1 Silverfish → Baby Yeti for speed

Mid Mining (HotM 4–7)

  • Armor: Divan's Armor (Gemstone Chambers set)
  • Tool: Titanium Drill DR-X455 → DR-X655 (later upgrade)
  • Pet: Lvl 100 Legendary Bal (Glacite Tunnels) or Mole
  • Accessory: Mithril Infusion, Titanium Artifact

Late / Endgame Mining (HotM 8–10)

  • Armor: Full Divan's Armor with Perfect Gemstone slots
  • Tool: Divan's Drill (best in slot)
  • Pet: Quick Claw (endgame pet for gemstone speed)
  • Reforge: Lustrous (general) or Refined Titanium (specific builds)

Drills need fuel

All drill tools require fuel (e.g., Volta, Biofuel, Comet Fuel). Keep fuel stocked — an empty drill is a dead tool. The Oil Barrel accessory helps automate this.

Best Mining Methods

Gemstone Mining (Crystal Hollows) — Best Coins/hr

Mine Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst, Jade, Topaz, Amber, and Jasper in the Crystal Hollows. Gems are always in demand for gear upgrades.

  • Coins/hr: 3–15M (scales heavily with gear)
  • Req: HotM 4+, Divan's Armor, Gemstone Drill
  • Pet: Quick Claw or Mole (Legendary)

Mithril/Powder Farming (Dwarven Mines)

Good early-mid game method for both coins and powder. Mithril is used for HotM upgrades and crafting recipes.

  • Coins/hr: 1–3M
  • Req: HotM 2+, basic drill
  • Best if: You need powder AND coins

Glacite Tunnel Mining (HotM 8+)

Glacite Ore is used for high-level crafting. The tunnels also have dense ore veins.

  • Coins/hr: 2–6M
  • Req: HotM 8, Divan's or better armor

Mining Fortune (MF) — Key Stat

Mining Fortune multiplies your ore drops. Stack it from:

SourceMF Bonus
HotM tree nodesUp to +250
Divan's ArmorLarge per piece
Mining pet abilityVaries
Equipment (Gauntlet)+50–100
Reforge: RefinedModerate

Fortune > Speed for profit

Mining Fortune directly multiplies drops. At 300+ MF you get 3× drops from every ore. Speed helps you mine faster, but Fortune is the actual multiplier. Prioritize Fortune nodes in HotM first.
