Shards & Bestiary

Shards of the Bestiary — how mob farming for Bestiary XP works, what it unlocks, and efficient grinding routes.

Last updated: 2026-04-05

What is the Bestiary?

The Bestiary tracks how many of each mob type you've killed on your profile. Killing mobs fills the Bestiary progress for that creature. Reaching milestones unlocks:

  • Magic Find bonuses (increases rare drop chance)
  • Permanent stat bonuses
  • SkyBlock XP
  • Cosmetic titles

Opening your Bestiary: SkyBlock Menu → Bestiary (or use SkyHanni's keybind).

How Shards Work

Bestiary Shards are items dropped by mobs that contribute double progress to their Bestiary entry. They're primarily obtained from:

  • Rare mob drops
  • Special event mobs
  • Boss mob variants

You don't need shards to complete the Bestiary — killing mobs normally fills progress — but shards speed it up.

Magic Find from Bestiary

Magic Find increases the chance of rare drops from all sources. Every 10 Bestiary levels gives +1 Magic Find.

Focus on high-density mobs first

Mobs you'll kill naturally (Zombies, Skeletons, Spiders in early game) fill Bestiary fast. Don't grind niche mobs specifically for Bestiary early on — focus on the mobs you're already farming.

Bestiary Families

Each mob belongs to a family (e.g. Undead, Arthropod, Ender, Boss). Completing a family gives a family-completion bonus.

Bestiary Level Milestones

Each mob entry has 5 tiers. Completing all 5 tiers of a mob gives the maximum bonus for it.

TierKills Required (varies by mob)Reward
1~100Small stat bonus
2~500Small MF
3~2,000Moderate MF
4~10,000Good MF bonus
5~50,000Full completion bonus

Rare mob numbers are high

Some rare mobs require thousands of kills to complete Bestiary tier 5. Don't try to rush these — focus on common mobs while doing other activities.

Session Tips

  • Track Bestiary progress with SkyHanni — it shows how many kills to next tier.
  • Play your normal content — dungeons, slayers, and farming all passively fill Bestiary.
  • Set aside one session per week for a dedicated mob grind in a low-traffic area.
  • Use the right pet for magic find when farming Bestiary (Legendary Black Cat or similar).
